One important South Carolina defender ready to go for Florida, Muschamp says

South Carolina football got a bit of good news going into the Florida game.

On Carolina Calls, Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp said start corner Israel Mukuamu practiced Thursday and will be ready to play against the Gators in Gainesville. Without him, the USC secondary struggled in spots against Tennessee.

Muschamp also said COVID will not keep any players from traveling.

As a 6-foot-4 corner, Mukuamu has NFL potential, and without him, younger defenders had their share of issues against an up and down Volunteers passing game.

Mukuamu’s presence will be valuable against a Gators team with an extremely efficient passing game. Boasting a preseason All-SEC quarterback in Kyle Trask, UF put up more than 600 yards and 51 points in a opening game win against Ole Miss.

Muschamp added linebacker Jahmar Brown’s status is still up in the air with a knee injury. The coach said he should be back next week for Vanderbilt.

Earlier in the week, the coach announced weakside linebacker Sherrod Greene will miss the next 4-6 weeks with a hip injury.

Other injuries Muschamp mentioned:

Linebacker Spencer Eason-Riddle showed know ill effects in his first game back from a torn ACL.
