Look: It’s South Carolina’s first depth chart for 2020. See which freshmen made it
The South Carolina football team doesn’t release these very often, but heading into the 2020 season, we’ve got a depth chart.
The Gamecocks kick off the season this week. Tennessee will roll into Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday evening, and we’ve got at least a sense of what South Carolina’s lineup will look like.
A few observations:
▪ Transfer wide receiver Jalen Brooks is still waiting on his waiver, and thus is not listed.
▪ At least 13 spots are held by freshmen or redshirt freshmen.
▪ It’s a bit of a surprise that Vincent Murphy edged out Hank Manos for the backup center spot. Manos was an opening-game starter last season.
▪ Seeing the OR listed between Sherrod Greene and Damani Staley at weakside linebacker was a bit unusual. It might point to the staff feeling good about Staley’s spring.
▪ Ger-Cari Caldwell hopping Josh Vann in the pecking order is a bit notable. Vann is in Year 3 and was a highly-rated prospect and opening day starter last year.
▪ If Keveon Mullins plays as much as that second tight end designation indicates, that would be highly notable. The depth there isn’t great, and if he’s an impact play-maker, it boosts the offense in a big way.
