That makes three: Another five-star recruit joins 2021 class for Gamecocks

South Carolina women’s basketball’s 2021 recruiting class continues to grow — and rack up five-star prospects.

Sania Feagin, a consensus top-10 player from Ellenwood, Georgia, announced her commitment to Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks on Sunday, making her the second commitment in two days and the third in a week.

Feagin is ranked sixth in her class by ESPN, and the No. 2 forward. Prospects Nation has her at No. 9 overall, and All-Star Girls Report rates her at No. 13.

A 6-foot-4 hybrid forward, Feagin averaged 17.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists per game as a junior, earning Gatorade Player of the Year honors for the state of Georgia. She was also named one of 18 finalists for the 2019 USA Women’s U16 National Team.

“Ultra-athletic hybrid-4 cleans the glass, rebounds and handles coast-to-coast in transition game; bouncy, quick-leaper, elevates over defenders and finishes plays in the paint; emerging perimeter game to the arc; an impact prospect in the class of 2021,” ESPN’s Dan Olson wrote in his most recent evaluation of Feagin.

Feagin’s commitment also bolsters South Carolina’s frontcourt — the Gamecocks have four other forwards on scholarship for the 2021-22 season, which will be Feagin’s freshman year, three of whom have played significant minutes.

The Gamecocks beat out SEC rivals Mississippi State, Georgia and Ole Miss for Feagin, as well ACC programs Louisville and Georgia Tech. She joins ESPN’s No. 2 ranked player, Saniya Rivers, and No. 26 Bree Hall in South Carolina’s 2021 class. Rivers announced her commitment Saturday, Hall made hers Monday.

South Carolina is now the only program with three commitments among ESPN’s top 30 prospects. Staley has previously tweeted about four commitments — with three revealed, USC seems likely to contend for its second No. 1 recruiting class in three years.
