South Carolina’s Bryan Edwards officially out for Clemson game
Had he been able to make it to the field, Saturday would give Bryan Edwards, South Carolina’s all-time leading receiver, a different kind of last game in a Gamecocks uniform.
It has been two weeks since he aggravated any injury against Appalachian State, less than two since he had a knee scope, making it a longshot.
He did not make the dress list, meaning he’s officially out. Edwards was not spotted with the wide receivers during the early portion of warmups. That’s usually an big indicator of availability.
Will Muschamp said he’d done better with the knee as the week went on. Redshirt freshman Dakereon Joyner was not in uniform during warmups and Mon Denson wasn’t expected to play. OrTre Smith, Tavien Feaster, Chavis Dawkins were warming up.
Edwards’ return would not only give him a chance at the school’s all-time touchdown record, which he sits one short of, it would also give Gamecocks offense by far the most potent play maker.
He sits at the top of the program list for yards (3,045) and receptions (234). He’s also the team leader in yards and catches this season by a large margin.
Edwards has started every healthy game since arriving on campus.
In warmups, South Carolina had six scholarship wide receivers: OrTre Smith, Shi Smith, Chad Terrell, Chavis Dawkins, Xavier Legette and Keveon Mullins. Jay Urich and Dakereon Joyner were with the QBs.
