South Carolina drops uniform combo for rivalry game with Clemson
With the chance to ruin its rival’s season, South Carolina football will go with an all-black look Saturday against Clemson.
USC unveiled the look with a fire-filled hype video, with some poetic narration courtesy of “The Tyger,” by William Blake.
The black jerseys will be the 1984-style throwbacks the Gamecocks have sported all season long.
Over the past decade, South Carolina is 3-2 when wearing all black, most recently beating Tennessee on Halloween weekend in 2018.
The Tigers have won five in a row in the rivalry and own the all-time edge in the series, 70-42-4. They are favored to continue their dominance handily, with the current betting spread at 27 points in favor of Clemson. South Carolina, meanwhile, is going for its second top-5 upset of the season after knocking off then-No. 3 Georgia on Oct. 12.
Win or lose on Saturday, USC cannot reach bowl eligibility for only the second time in 12 years. Clemson, meanwhile, checked in at No. 3 in the latest College Football Playoff and is set to compete in the ACC Championship Game next week.
The Gamecocks and Tigers kick off at noon on Saturday from Williams-Brice Stadium, televised on ESPN.
