A Clemson backup defensive back is set to enter the portal.

Tigers safety Rob Billings will enter the transfer portal when it opens Friday, according to a report from Steve Wiltfong of On3 Sports. Billings also confirmed the news on his personal X page on Wednesday night.

“Thankful for every opportunity,” Billings wrote.

Billings (6-2, 205) appeared in all 13 games for Clemson in 2025 but played almost exclusively in a special teams role. He recorded three tackles (two solo) in 2025 and had seven career tackles in 32 games for Clemson across three years.

Billings also recovered a blocked punt this season vs. Duke.

As a redshirt sophomore this season, Billings will have two years of eligibility remaining. He signed with the Tigers as a four-star Class of 2023 recruit out of Georgia and is the team’s seventh scholarship transfer portal entry.

He is the second safety transfer, joining junior starter Khalil Barnes.

How the NCAA transfer portal works in 2025-26

The NCAA transfer portal window runs for 15 days from Jan. 2-16, 2026. Players cannot formally enter their name into the transfer portal until Jan. 2, although hundreds will declare their intent to enter the portal earlier than that date.

Once they are formally in the portal, player can commit to a school at any point. There is no spring transfer portal window, as the NCAA abolished it last fall.
