UNC football starting safety Myles Wolfolk to miss remainder of season

UNC football safety Myles Wolfolk, who started Saturday’s 31-6 win over Syracuse, was ruled academically ineligible on Thursday and will miss the rest of the Tar Heels season.

Wolfolk earned undergraduate degrees in sociology and communications in December and was taking graduate student courses. Wolfolk’s five tackles against the Orange tied him for second behind linebacker Chazz Surratt.

According to a release, he “fell behind in his graduate work this past semester, which recently ended. As a result, he is unable to participate moving forward.”

A football senior, Wolfolk’s career at UNC is effectively over. He is expected to start preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Wolfolk started the first four games of his junior season at strong safety before battling injuries the remainder of the year. He finished with 25 tackles and three interceptions. He also started UNC’s season opener this season, this past Saturday against Syracuse, and had five tackles.

UNC was scheduled to play Charlotte on Saturday in Chapel Hill but the game has been cancelled because of coronavirus. For now, UNC’s next game is scheduled or Oct. 3 at Boston College.
