Hilton Head will host 5 USTA league state championships in 2016
USTA South Carolina has announced the dates and host cities of its 2016 league state championships, and five of them will be held on Hilton Head Island, including a new invitational championship for players 75 and older.
The first USTA S.C. league state championship on Hilton Head Island, the Adult 70 and over, will take place April 28 through 30. It will be immediately followed by the Adult 55 and Over held April 30 through May 2.
The Combo Doubles championship for all ages will be held Oct. 20 through 24.
Then, Nov. 3 through 5, for the first time, USTA S.C. will host an invitational championship for its players ages 75 and older. In past years, USTA S.C. had hosted a league state championship for those players, who qualified for the event by playing well in their local leagues.
But after many conversations with longtime league players and captains, the players and USTA South Carolina agreed that an invitational would provide more play opportunities for the state’s 75 and over players.
The Adult 65 and Over championship is Nov. 5 through 7.
“We’re looking forward to another year of exceptional league state championships with our players, captains and host cities,” USTA South Carolina executive director Graham Cox said in a release.
More information about the invite and the championships will be posted when it’s available at sctennis.com/leaguechamps.
