Sometimes it’s good to draw attention to yourself.
On Tuesday, Dave Thomas, the force development consultant for the Southern Zone of USA Swimming, visit and observe the Hilton Head Aquatic Swim Team.
Thomas will be at the Island Recreation Center at 4 p.m. Tuesday to observe practice and speak with the coaches.
“He’s basicall there to support USA Swimming programs around the country,” Hilton Head Aquatics coach Mike Lane said. “It’s really kind of an information excange. He wants to learn from us, we want to learn from him, a kind of exchange of ideas. He’ll let us know what we’re doing really well and he’ll let us know things we can improve on.”
Thomas made the trip from Denver to offer support as H2A has become a rising star among small teams in USA Swimming. According to Lane, Thomas is available to make these visits for all of the USA Swimming clubs but requested a meeting with H2A.
“Whenever we go to national or regional meets, he gets together with us,” Lane said.
Last season, H2A sent 100 percent of its senior swimmers to Senior Sectional swim meets, placed Hilton Head Island senior Lilla Felix, a national level finalist, at Yale University and has multiple swimmers ranked nationally in the country.
Lane said Thomas met with the Bluffton Fins on Monday.
