Nearly 2,700 tennis players will take part in the 2015 USTA S.C. Combo Doubles League State Championships, which start Thursday and finish Monday in Beaufort County.
This year's event has drawn the top 243 teams from across the state, including teams from Hilton Head Island, Myrtle Beach, Greenville and Columbia. The players will compete in dozens of tennis matches while they're on Hilton Head Island.
"We're thrilled to be back for another great weekend on Hilton Head Island," USTA South Carolina combo doubles league coordinator Joyce Harrison said in a release.
The teams, which represent various clubs, parks, recreational departments and organizations, made it to Hilton Head Island because they finished at the top of their local leagues. Some of the teams are now vying for chances to represent South Carolina at the Combo Doubles Southern Sectional Championships in March 2016, when teams from nine states are scheduled to compete.
In all, 28 league state championships in four age divisions - 18 and over, 40 and over, 55 and over and 65 and over - will be won this weekend.
The championships will be played at 12 area facilities: Palmetto Dunes, Country Club of Hilton Head, Sea Pines Country Club, Sea Pines Racquet Club, South Beach Racquet Club, Port Royal, Moss Creek, Wexford Plantation, Spring Lake of Hilton Head Plantation, Spanish Wells Club, Colleton River Plantation Club and Tennisclub of the Low Country at Rose Hill. Palmetto Dunes is the official host site.
