Main draw play got underway, while the eight qualifiers were determined Tuesday at The Shipyard Cup, a women's $10,000 ITF Pro Series event, on the clay courts of the Van Der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club on Hilton Head Island.
The main draw features 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams.
Tuesday's main draw winners were Alexandra Pepper, Nicole Coopersmith and Maria Mateas, who upset seventh-seeded Ayan Broomfield 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
The top-seeded player this year is Alexa Graham, ranked 536th in the world.

The 17-year-old, who reached the second round in last year's event, has reached the final in two ITF $10,000 tournaments this year.
Graham will face Hilton Head's Jaquelline Pelletier at noon Wednesday on Court 13.
Play starts at 10 a.m. Admission is free, and the tournament is open to the public.
