No. 2 seed Mueller knocked out of Women's $10K tennis tournament on Hilton Head
It's dangerous to be a seeded player this week on Hilton Head Island.
Michelle Sammons knocked off second-seeded Alexandra Mueller 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 on Thursday, leaving just three seeded players entering Friday's quarterfinals of the Head/First Federal Women's $10,000 USTA Pro Circuit Tournament.
Fourth-seeded Brooke Austin, a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 winner over Belinda Woolcock, is the highest seed remaining. She is joined by seventh-seeded Katerina Stewart, a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Taylor Davidson, and eighth-seeded Hiroko Kuwata, a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Samantha Powers.
Hayley Carter, a Smith Stearns Academy senior who signed to play at North Carolina, dispatched American Amanda Rodgers 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals.
In the doubles draw, top-seeded Kristy Frilling and Alexandra Mueller, second-seeded Erin Clark and Sonja Molnar and third-seeded Jessica Moore and Belinda Woolcock advanced to the semifinals.
