Stefon Diggs Makes Bold Claim Amid Free Agency
Stefon Diggs' free agency has lingered on, and he wants teams to know he is still out there ahead of NFL training camps starting soon.
Diggs last played for the New England Patriots' Super Bowl team in 2025 before off-field legal trouble led to his exit. The four-time Pro Bowler is clear of any NFL intervention for his legal trouble, and he believes he has plenty to offer a wide receiver-needy team.
“My opinion, I can compete with anybody,” Diggs said during a July 8 video on his YouTube channel. “But take those [top wide receivers] as your 1s, right? You can’t name a No. 2 better than me.”
Diggs has played for the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans thus far in his career, and he was a go-to wideout in each instance. That was the same for Patriots quarterback Drake Maye last season, but the Patriots acquired star wideout A.J. Brown via a trade to replace Diggs this year.
Diggs had a strong 2025 season with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. He has eclipsed 1,000 yards and three touchdowns every full season since 2018 with the Vikings - the season he also caught the Minneapolis Miracle pass.
While Diggs has been a No. 1 wideout for much of his career, he's embracing the fact that he will be a No. 2 somewhere. Numerous teams, such as the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and Washington Commanders, would use a quality second wideout.
“There’s not a No. 2 on a team - let’s presumably give people the credit and just say, ‘OK, you want to take the No. 1 spot away,'” he said. “Name your No. 2 receiver right now, and tell me how much he makes, and then my last question is: Is he better than me?”
If a team takes a chance on Diggs by training camp, he will get to answer that question, as well as the competition.
