Late miscues cost Flamingos in loss to Sharks and other summer sports recaps
WILMINGTON, N.C. − A pair of errors in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday night proved costly for Florence as Wilmington rallied for a 2-1 victory.
The Flamingos fell to 4-11 overall and will next host Tri-City tonight at 7 p.m.
The late miscues spoiled strong pitching performances from Benjamin Barr and Blake Holshouser. Barr went five innings and allowed no runs on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks for the Flamingos.
Holshouser came on in relief and tossed two scoreless frames − allowing one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.
But a pair of walks, two throwing errors and a couple of stolen bases in the eighth allowed Wilmington to plate a pair of runs for the come-from-behind victory.
Hartsville's Jackson Moore had two hits including a triple for Florence and an RBI. Carlos Diaz had two hits as well.
