South Carolina squad dominates NC in 2025 Shrine Bowl of Carolinas
Stratford quarterback Jachin Davis threw a pair of touchdown passes as the South Carolina all-stars defeated North Carolina in the 2025 Shrine Bowl of Carolinas all-star football game Saturday at Spartanburg High School.
The win gives SC head coach Paul Sutherland a victory in his final game. SC players picked up the Liberty High coach, who is retiring, and carried him on their shoulders in celebration.
Sutherland has been at Liberty for the past five years but has been a head coach for 25 years with stops in Franklin County (Ga.) and Pendleton.
“Just very blessed,” Sutherland said during a TV interview. “No one thinks more of high school football in South Carolina than I do. These kids have been wonderful all week. I am just very blessed. I love this state and what it stands for.”
SC leads the all-time series, 48-34-7.
Davis, a Liberty signee, threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Dillon High receiver and North Carolina Tar Heels signee Zamarious Robertson on the first play of the game to set the tone for the Sandlappers in the victory. The Stratford quarterback was 10-of-15 passing for 185 yards and one interception.
“It was a tone-setter,” Davis said of the opening touchdown.
Robertson finished with four catches for 131 yards.
Mooresville QB Brody Norman (Temple) tied it at 7-7 with a 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
South Carolina took a 10-7 lead on a 40-yard field goal from Spartanburg’s Will Love (Virginia Tech) in the second quarter.
SC put the game away as Davis hit Christ Church’s Jude Hall, an Arkansas signee, who made a one-handed catch on a 9-yard TD pass with 1:29 left.
South Carolina outgained North Carolina 350-136.
Chester’s Terry Radford led SC with 11 tackles (1.5 for loss). Ridge View’s Jordyn Best (NC State) and Dorman’s Kentavion “Polo” Anderson (Clemson) each had interceptions for the SC defense.
Norman was 5-of-11 passing for 58 yards and rushed for 27 yards. He was the NC’s Offensive MVP and Mountain Heritage’s Cameron Cartlidge (NC Central), who had team-high 13 tackles was the NC Defensive MVP.
Millbrook’s Brillison McCullers led NC with 31 yards rushing.
