You get a quarterback! You get a quarterback! Everyone gets a quarterback!

Quarterbacks, offensive players dominate first round

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was doing his best Oprah impression on the draft stage in Detroit on Thursday night, announcing quarterbacks to every team. Okay…almost every team. Six quarterbacks were taken in the first round, out of 32, seven wide receivers were also taken, with the first defensive player not being selected until No. 15 overall.

As expected, the Chicago Bears got things started with the selection of Southern California’s Caleb Williams. Williams is already predicted to win the Offensive Player of the Year award. A bit early, no?

The Washington Commanders followed suit with the selection of LSU QB Jayden Daniels.

Then, the New England Patriots kept the trend going with the selection of UNC QB Drake Maye. However, the New York Giants reportedly tried to trade up, unsuccessfully, to draft Maye. Here’s how North Carolina responded.

Other quarterbacks taken: UW’s Michael Penix Jr. (and not by Seattle), Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, and Oregon’s Bo Nix.

Here’s a look at what one of our experts think will happen in the first 100 draft picks, which includes the second and third round on Friday. The rest of the draft will take place on Saturday.
