Mother Nature got to play on Monday, along with nearly 150 South Carolina golfers as they teed off for Round One of the South Carolina Open.

The weather ranged from overcast to hot and muggy before settling into thunder and rain, causing nearly three hours of delays.

So far, the scores have the top 10 sitting around 72 or better with Tate Hoisington from Hilton Head Island and Clark Rose from Goldsboro, N.C., leading the group.

After the second round, the field will be cut to the low third of the starting field. The scores from this event count toward the True Temper CPGA Johnny Palmer Trophy.

Dataw Island is hosting the 66th Carolinas PGA Section tournament on its Cotton Dike course, designed by Tom Fazio. The tournament is a 54-stroke play with a 36-hole cut.

The South Carolina Open is an official Bob Boyd CPGA Player of the Year Award Presented by OMEGA points event.
