Rants & Raves: Moss, short jail time, sharks

Readers react to the story "Moss to keep his job; wife resigns new post":

Darlene Moss resigned Saturday and we are just hearing this (Monday)? This Board needs to go. TRANSPARENCY is lost!!!!! Sandi Brown Jordan

The board supports him due to his "clear vision"?! Ha! He can't even recall changing the nepotism policy a few months ago to work in his favor. What garbage. If the board doesn't censure him in some way, we the people are prepared -- as I said at the meeting (last Monday) -- to initiate a petition for recall of the board. They are as responsible for this mess as Moss is. Not to mention they just voted themselves a raise and eliminated the previous requirement of three public readings before any raise. Shady, shady, shady. They have kicked the wrong hornets' nest this time. I also completed a notarized complaint that was sent to the SC Ethics Commission today -- let them investigate this mess because it's clear the school board is inept. Kimberly Morgan

Will there be anyone hired to fill her position?? Or will the job somehow disappear? Donna Sobczynski Aylsworth

This is disgusting. That superintendent should be gone! What kind of message does that send out to the children in the family? Corruption's OK as long as you resigned from said corrupted position? This is just ridiculous he should be fired immediately. Luke Cleveland

They got it half right ... Chris Short

To "Ex-Beaufort County teacher who molested 9 boys released from jail":

He served just over a year for each child. Is that the going rate for damaging a child's emotional life and causing lifelong harm? If so, what is to keep him from doing so again? Shame on the justice system. Our children are worth more than this. Jennie Krogulski

We need to change the law. We always forget about the victims. Maritza Schmidt

THIS is where the justice system fails us!!!!!!!!!! Monica Capps Ferrell

Why does good behavior and helping others earn any time off his sentence? What else is there to do in there? That in itself should be a reward, and he should serve all 25 years. Jes Wheeler

Beaufort should be ashamed, or South Carolina, or a judge! This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!! Sue Wilkins Dexheimer

Another pedophile on the streets! Caught naked in a classroom w/children and he gets to walk only after 13 years ... People wonder why? #OurSystemFailed #ProtectYourChildren Cara Russell

What a injustice for those kids. They have to live with this forever. Great job justice system. Amanda Bower

To "Hilton Head father, son land 9-foot tiger shark":

I am all for sport fishing, but there was no reason to kill that majestic animal. Saying they disposed of it doesn't sound like they ate it either. Wedford Turner

This is despicable. Cut it up and disposed of it? Way to show no respect for the fish or the sport. Growing up here I've always been taught catch and release unless it's going to be eaten. Was your picture in the paper worth its life? Joseph Capin

Should've let it go. Whenever I hook a big shark I'll bring it close then cut the line or try to get the hook out. No need to kill these beautiful animals -- especially when you don't even eat them (they aren't even good eating). But seriously -- shame on you both. You give fishermen a bad name. Ryan Neal
