Liz’s Notebook: Savannah burgah scene about to get wicked awesome
Wow.You have no idea how hard it is to talk about Mark and Donnie Wahlburg without making at least one New Kids on the Block joke or one “Bostonians don’t pronounce their R’s, get it?” remark.
And now I can’t stop repeating “Say hello to your mother for me” in my head.
This same thing happened when I ate at the Wahlburgers in Hingham, which, according to an announcement in Business Insider magazine, is set to expand by leaps and bounds, opening 30 new restaurants, including one in Savannah and one in Charleston. A “New Kids” song even came on the sound system ... how are we not supposed to find that joyous?
Mark (of “Ted,” the Funky Bunch and Calvin Klein fame) and (once-a-New-Kid-always-a-New Kid) Donnie opened Wahlburgers in 2011 along with their much cooler brother Paul, who is a chef.
Right now they have seven locations in Massachusetts, Florida, New York and soon Nevada and Pennsylvania. With 30 new restaurants, one can assume this is only the beginning.
I don’t have any details yet about their expecting opening dates in Savannah and Charleston, but you can check out their menu here and I will keep you posted via Twitter and Facebook.
The food, though, much like their A&E reality series “Wahlburgers,” is fun and unexpectedly comforting. I had the sweet potato tots and the Thanksgiving Day sandwich, which we all feel like we invented in front of a fridge full of leftovers.
Hmmm. I wonder what kind of restaurant they would’ve opened if they had been born to the Wahlpizz family ...
