Liz’s Notebook: Former Victoria’s Secret model Kylie Bisutti to speak at Beaufort church
Former Victoria’s Secret model and author of the book, “I’m No Angel: From Victoria’s Secret Model to Role Model,” will give a talk to women only (sorry, guys) at 6 p.m. June 13 at Community Bible Church in Beaufort.
Kylie Bisutti won the 2009 “Victoria’s Secret Model Search” TV competition when she was just 19, but soon left the lingerie-modeling industry when she noticed the path she was on was taking her farther from her values as a Christian.
“I craved attention when I was a model and anytime a photographer or guy would give me attention for modeling it made me feel good,” she said. “Now I look for that attention from my husband only, and I am much happier.”
Since then she has become a mother (she is due with her second child in September) and has launched a Christian clothing line for men, women and children that, ironically, is on-point style-wise with the clothes featured in the back of Victoria’s Secret catalogues but is much tamer and with a very clear message attached literally.
“I've gotten mostly positive responses to (God Inspired Fashion),” she said. “A lot of people are happy to see a fashionable line that has Scripture on it and focuses on spreading God’s word throughout the world.”
She said she is ecstatic when she sees people she doesn’t know wearing the clothes and that a lot has changed for her since she quit modeling.
“High points have been total happiness and peace about my decision to quit modeling and the freedom I now have because of it. Also knowing that I am on the path that the lord desires for me is a total high point,” she said. “Low points have been the negativity I've received from people online.”
Her advice for women is simple: Don’t give into the pressures associated with society’s version of what you should look like and do.
“Image is such an illusion and the more you try to conform to the world’s standard for beauty, the more insecure you will become.”
