Letter: Live and let live

With everyone getting in an uproar over cop shootings and Black Lives Matter, we really have to look at the big picture.

There are more than 350 million people in this country. Not all are good. There are bad cops and bad people. The media has to elaborate on things that get our attention. Then our response is to stereotype every nationality and job with bigotry and hate.

JFK said once that if a person wants to commit suicide and take someone with them, there’s nothing you can do about it. Next time you walk into a crowded restaurant or business, make believe you had a vest and a bomb and wanted to blow everyone up. Who’s going to stop you?

We all should read “Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl.” She was a young person who could not understand the hate that surrounded her. Even after the Nazis killed her family, she wrote that all people could not be the same.

Society is based on compassion to others; to stereotype anyone would be a disaster. Don’t blame anyone for your misfortunes or pitfalls. And don’t expect anyone to fix them.

You’re not going to change anyone’s mind, so just try and surround yourself with positive people and make yourself a strong and better person. You are no better or worse then any American.

Live and let live.
