Letter: Further ‘distinctions’ of Obama’s record
In response to a recent writer who listed some of President Barack Obama’s broad achievements vs. that of President George W. Bush, I would like add a few that he missed mentioning.
In his seven and a half years as president, Obama has added more to the national debt ($10 trillion) than his 43 predecessors combined ($9 trillion).
The Obama administration has had the lowest labor participation rate (62 percent) since the Carter administration in the 1970s ... meaning fewer than two in three people who can work have jobs.
The Obama administration has had the worst recovery from a recession since World War II, even though they received a $800 billion stimulation from Congress in 2009. This trend also includes having a near historic six-year, zero-percent interest rate from the Federal Reserve.
The Obama administration has reduced the number of ships of the U.S. Navy to below WW II levels. This trend is particularly dangerous in the present world we are living.
The Affordable Care Act, the first large entitlement enacted by Congress that did not receive one vote from a Republican, is generally recognized as already insolvent in two years, and will be either repealed or will have to be re-written. This is why United Healthcare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, and others have already withdrawn from it, or are strongly considering that. Year-over-year premiums are up double digits, and the high deductibles will kill most middle class budgets.
I could also mention Libya, Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, but...
