Letter: Trump budget doesn’t add up

What I don’t understand about the projected GOP Trump budget is the huge imbalance between income and expense.

The GOP platform has all sorts of talk about sacrifice, immediate action, urgency, etc. But, when responsible, bipartisan groups like Fix the Debt or Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget review Trump’s proposals, one sees a flood of red ink.

You cannot tax cut your way to a balanced budget, as proven by Reagan, Bush II and recently by Sam Brownback in Kansas. There are two known points on Art Laffer’s famous curve, 0 percent taxes gives no income, and 100 percent taxes gives no income because no one would work for after-tax income of zero. In between is unknown and probably depends on a variety of things anyway. All in all, Trump’s proposals are nonsensical from a fiscal point of view.

I understand the anxiety many have with regard to Supreme Court appointees, but how can one translate that concern into a vote for a bunch of question marks? That’s right, one does not have any idea what one really gets with Trump. It is a mystery package.

The most disappointed will be those who actually believe we are going to deport 11.5 million illegals, Mexico is paying for a wall, health care is going to be huge and wonderful for all and will support those with insufficient means, Social Security and Medicare are fine like they are, defense spending will be ratcheted way up, veterans care will be solved, etc., etc. etc.
