Letter: A way to save lives at Sun City intersection
Last week, there was another car accident at the intersection of U.S. 278 and the entrance to Sun City Hilton Head. There are multiple serious accidents at this intersection each year.
These accidents are the result of motorists attempting to turn left from U.S. 278 into Sun City and not properly judging the speed of oncoming traffic on U.S. 278. I believe the cause of many of these accidents is the flashing left-turn arrow. The flashing left-turn arrow allows cars to make a left turn when it is safe to turn.
I have a proposal that could possibly cut down on the number of accidents here. My proposal will not be a popular. I’m proposing that when the green left-turn arrow goes off, the left-turn signal should turn to red, and not allow any cars to make a left turn except with a green arrow.
Hopefully this will eliminate accidents and more importantly, save lives.
