Letter: First, provide the basics
New arts center vs. sewer hook-ups? Why are we being asked to vote on a sales tax increase that includes funding for studying a new arts/entertainment venue when we have many long-time Hilton Head Island residents without basic sanitary sewer access?
There are valid issues about the economic viabilility and a location for a new arts venue. There is no question about the need for sewer hook-ups from a public health standpoint and as a basic public service that should be provided to all residents.
We should not spend another dollar on the new arts venue project until sewer service is provided to 100 percent of island residents.
