Letter: Taxpayers have right to be at Moss ethics hearing

The S.C. State Ethics Commission hearing concerning the conduct of Beaufort County Superintendent Jeff Moss is coming up in a few weeks. Several questions should be answered by Moss soon. Since most questions that are brought up at school board meetings are ignored, I’m raising them here.

What is the name and contact information of the attorney he has hired who is a former S.C. Ethics Commission chairman? How much are we paying for his services? Why did Moss feel he had to hire this person instead of using an attorney that the district employs?

Since we, the taxpayers, are paying the bill, we have the right to this information as well as the right to be at the hearing next month.

Since Moss has still not announced if he will opt for a public hearing, common sense tells us that he will not. We are paying for his attorney’s fees as well as all other expenses associated with this hearing and we have the right to be there.
