Letter: Many people should not own guns
A recent letter writer tells us that permits to own guns is unconstitutional, but in quoting the Second Amendment, he leaves out the part about the “well regulated militia.”
Let’s face it, many people should not be allowed to own guns. For example, people with anger management problems: domestic abusers, road-ragers, jihadists.
Also, people who are absent minded, leaving guns on the coffee table for the kiddies. And there are the mentally ill and the depressed.
The largest segment of the 30,000 gun deaths each year are from suicides. A study by the Harvard School of Public Health of all 50 states reveals that the rate of suicides goes down dramatically with strict gun laws.
For purests like the letter writer, let’s stipulate that no permit should be required to own a musket, as our Founding Fathers intended.
