Letter: Trump most resembles Goebbels
Donald Trump has been compared to Adolph Hitler and Benitno Mussolini by Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, but I think he gets most of his political strategy from Hitler’s propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels. The following are a few quotes from Goebbels that were taken from “A-Z Quotes.”
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.”
“A lie told once remains a lie but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth.”
“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.” (Or in Trump’s case on which “The Donald” can play.)
“There was no point in seeking to convert the intellectuals. For intellectuals would never be converted ... Arguments must therefore be crude, clear and forcible, and appeal to emotions and instincts, not the intellect. Truth was unimportant and entirely subordinate to tactics and psychology.”
“Propaganda must facilitate the displacement of aggression by specifying the targets for hatred.” (Mexicans, Muslims, immigrants — and just about everyone who criticizes Donald Trump).
Donald Trump has promised to “make America great again,” but has provided few specifics on just what he is going to do and how he is going to do it.
