Letter: When a warning won’t do

We take pride in being a nation of laws and the fair interpretation thereof. A buddy of mine just got stopped for doing 87 mph on U.S. 278. He told the policeman he possibly was wrong in endangering the lives of the other drivers, but he didn’t intend to do so. He said that he was just “careless.” I’m certain he was merely given a warning.
