Letter: Gun permits should not be required
I read with interest the July 5 column by Cindi Ross Scoppe that said “constitutional carry” wasn’t a right given to us by the Constitution. I would beg to differ with her.
I believe that requiring people to have a permit may violate the Constitution. “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” This means that if you have not been judged as a criminal or mentally incompetent, you should not need a permit. I don’t believe our Founding Fathers had any intention of requiring people to have permits to carry guns, either concealed or open.
