Letter: Enforce existing immigration law
I just finished reading the Chicago Tribune editorial that you published on July 1. Contrary to the contention in the editorial that the “immigration debacle” is the fault of Congress, I see our (trigger warning here for the benefit of the more sensitive members of our community) illegal alien problem stemming from three groups: the millions of people who have illegally entered our country; the feckless Obama administration that daily breaks its oath to enforce the actual laws of our country; and the employers (whether corporate or homeowners) who employ the (here I go again) illegal aliens.
Let’s enforce the laws we have before we grant yet another amnesty that will inevitably result in yet more illegal immigration.
On a related subject, I’m puzzled as to why your publisher has adopted a strategy of having a liberal editorial page in a conservative community (just to refresh your memory, Hilton Head voted against Obama in both 2008 and 2012 by about a 54-44 margin). Seems like a bad business decision to me. Maybe you should stick to editorializing about the landscaping of big box stores.
