Letter: Dems, quit wasting our time
Listening to the Senate Democrats wail about how Republicans ignore the safety of the American people by not banning assault weapons, I would love to have followed Harry Reid and Dianne Feinstein after they wrung their hands into arthritic knots over the Republicans’ refusal to keep these killing machines out of the hands of terrorists.
If I were a senator, I would have risen and said:
“To my friends on the other side of the aisle, really? You blame us for providing the assault weapons to a mass murderer? Have you thoroughly checked the serial numbers on those weapons to ensure they weren’t part of that batch that your Department of Justice provided to the Mexican drug cartels in your still-unresolved ‘Fast and Furious’ program?
“Are you sure Eric Holder didn’t give Omar Saddiqui Mateen that weapon as a Ramadan gift? This smells like the same motif you are renowned for: cause a catastrophe and then demand we strike the Second Amendment to cure the ills you caused.
“We’ll not reconsider your request to ban weapons until the ‘Fast and Furious’ issue is fully adjudicated. We’ll not reconsider this non-issue until the IRS corruption case is fully adjudicated. Not until the Benghazi disaster is fully adjudicated. Not until the Secretary of State’s espionage case is fully adjudicated will we consider your ridiculous proposals to destroy the Bill of Rights.
“Until then, I promise to kill any legislation and/or proposal you throw up. Quit wasting our time. I yield the floor.”
