Letter: NRA blocking sane gun control

A recent letter makes some very positive points. The Second Amendment was, in no way, intended to let every being that walks the streets of this country to do so carrying a gun.

People who are trained, knowledgeable of our laws, licensed, an, oh yes, sane and not suspected of being enemies of the state, should be able to have weapons for sport, hunting, and protection of the homes and families.

Before continuing, let me just state that before moving to South Carolina, I was a card-carrying member of the NRA, licensed to carry a concealed weapon and an avid target shooter.

Recent proposals to gun laws by both Republican and Democratic members of Congress went nowhere. Why was that? Does it have anything to do with too many politicians being in bed with the NRA? Just look at proposed legislation of the past years. If anyone can come up with more logical reasoning, I’d like to hear it. It’s time for sanity to take hold.
