Letter: Control guns with fast, harsh punishment
Congress, please remove your collective heads from the sand or any other place you are inclined to stick them. Go to work on the gun violence problem with the utmost urgency and common sense with political ideologies set aside.
Do you really want to stop gun violence? We have gun laws that make automatic weapons illegal, yet the sanctity of the Second Amendment remains intact. Pass a law making possession of clips in excess of 15 rounds illegal (pick a number).
Take back our criminal justice system from progressives who believe that slaps on the wrist are adequate punishments because it is society’s fault. The reality is that deterrents need to be harsh/draconian in order to be effective.
People who perpetrate gun violence are terrorists whether they be radical Islamists or homegrown wackos. It’s still terrorism.
Terrorism must be met, not with love and compassion but with rapid, one-appeal and done-justice.
You are illegally in possession of a firearm, 25 years minimum. No parole. You kill someone and are found guilty by a jury of your peers, you are executed.
The issue is clip capacity and lack of harsh, rapid punishment, not semiautomatics that resemble assault weapons. If you are caught with an automatic assault weapon, you have life in prison with no chance of parole.
Whether you realize it or not, we are at war internally, pitting violent people with no respect for life against a placid, silent majority who actually believe the government will protect them.
