Letter: Cops trick people, then arrest them

I was glad to see the article you printed about the restaurants that were ticketed for “non compliance” concerning alcohol sales. I’m sure this has become a widely accepted practice in “law enforcement,” but I witnessed one of these “stings” and found it repugnant.

How is it that we have become OK with the police tricking people into making a mistake and then arresting them for it? We now live in a country where many are chanting anti-police slogans and there is an all-time mistrust of said police. Do actions like these really do any good?

Why are we OK with the police setting people up to break the law instead of having them concentrating on arresting real criminals and preventing real crimes?

As a taxpayer who contributes to these people’s salary, I find it offensive that this is even considered a real job. Our world is falling apart around us and these guys are patting themselves on the back for tricking an unsuspecting working mother into making a mistake.

I guess this is what it takes to be a hero nowadays.
