Letter: No hope for tag slogans
Until recently I had wanted to visit New Hampshire, but now I’m afraid to. I noticed the slogan on its license plates: “Live Free or Die.” If I were to be arrested would I be put to death?
Not to be outdone, now South Carolina has adopted the slogan “While I Breathe I Hope” on its license plates. Wow! Come visit South Carolina. If you have no hope at home, here all you need to do is breathe to become hopeful.
Why do we have a slogan going back to 1777 rather than one that reflects the character of the state or that encourages people to visit? What happened to “Smiling Faces; Beautiful Places”? Who is responsible for this stupidity?
