Letter: Hilton Head Plantation very public

Being a resident of Hilton Head Plantation, I attended the meeting on Hilton Head Plantation beach replenishment and spoke during the session.

I referenced how, yes, in theory, Hilton Head Plantation is a “private” community, but very public. We have four public golf courses, multiple restaurants, the historic Fort Mitchel site, boats accessing by sea dropping anchor while fishing and dining on Pine Island all day, reciprocating privileges with Sea Pine residents (their renters and guests).

That’s very public access to our community and Pine Island, with many people entering daily throughout the year.

I also stated that the true “private” beaches that no one can access are the following: Sea Pines Tower Beach, Palmetto Dunes Mariner Beach and Leamington Beach, all of which only owners can use. However, those beaches are receiving town funds for replenishing.

The public needs to know how public Hilton Head Plantation really is. Thank you to the Town Council members who understand the urgent need to Pine Island for everyone who enjoys it.
