Letter: School board needs responsible candidates
The June 15 article concerning Beaufort County Board of Education member Paul Roth was shocking.
It is difficult to believe a member of the board would disrespect JoAnn Orischak and other fellow members with his remarks. It’s not a good example for the students of our school system.
I certainly understand that different opinions should be discussed, but in a respectful way.
I urge responsible citizens to run for the school board. A high-quality school system attracts new residents and businesses. We need people with integrity to serve in these important positions.
I speak with experience as I am a retired elected official from Maryland, having served on the Charles County Board of Education as vice chairman and chairman, County Commission vice president, Maryland Association of Boards of Education president, and chairman of the Northeast region of the National School Boards Association.
