Letter: It’s all one island

You’ve heard to old story about the two men in a sinking boat; one says, “You better start bailing, Charlie, your end of the boat is sinking.”

We live on one Hilton Head Island. It is just as important to keep the north end from washing away as it is to save the south end or the Port Royal section. We must not pit the north end and the south end residents against each other like the “North of the Broad” vs. “South of the Broad” mentality.

Dolphin Head is not a swimming beach; it drops off sharply and the tide runs very fast in and out of Skull Creek. It is used by boaters to picnic and by others to walk. But it protects the critical stormwater drainage system for the north end of the island.

The Town of Hilton Head Island has a working dredge and an infinite supply of sand as we speak. This synergy provides by far the most cost-effective solution. Every Town Council representative should support saving the north end just as my neighbors and I have supported saving the south end and the knee area for the past 20 years.
