Letter: Island is lucky to have Steve Riley at helm

We have truly been fortunate to have Steve Riley as our town manager for the last 25 years. In that time the town has grown and matured.

Given that we have a strong town manger form of government, Steve deserves credit for his leadership in so many ways. The real estate transfer fee, which he helped guide, has resulted in protection of vast acreage on the island to preserve what we love here. The beach preservation and refurbishment program, led by Steve and his team at Town Hall, has preserved and maintained the biggest reason so many of us are here.

You may not know it, but Steve also served multiple terms as chairman of the Beaufort County Rural and Critical Lands board, which has achieved protection of thousands of acres throughout the county.

Now it looks like Steve is looking for other challenges. I just want to say: Thank you, Steve. Job well done!
