Letter: Large US debt should concern us

Most of us don't know or care that our debt is $19 trillion and will eventually reach $20 trillion. It's not affecting us presently. However, our youth will eventually have to deal with it. Is this the legacy we want to leave? Our politicians spend more money than they receive in taxes. Why go through the gyrations of passing budgets to which they never adhere? Can a family survive if its monthly income is $5,000 and spend $10,000 and only pay the interest on their debt as our country does?

When Bush became president, the debt was $5.7 trillion. A eight years, it rose to $9.8 trillion. Senator Obama chastised Bush, calling him un-American for his out-of-control spending. During Obama's first seven years, he added $10 trillion more. Obama's first trillion was to be used on shovel-ready jobs repairing roads, bridges etc. Instead he lost millions investing in windmill, electric and solar companies along with bailing out banks, Wall Street, General Motors and Chrysler. Our infrastructure is still crumbling and Obama is blaming Republicans. Obama doesn't seem to care about our mounting debt. Would you care if you were spending someone else's money?

Additionally, to keep his campaign promise to close GITMO, Obama is releasing terrorists. Some have estimated that a third have returned to the battle field and have already been credited with killing our soldiers.

Hillary will continue with his policies. Do we want another eight years?
