Letter: Beaufort Memorial acted fast and effectively
I am the neighbor who notified Beaufort Memorial Hospital about the oil slick on Sunday morning, May 29. My dock is probably 100 to 150 yards from where the spill originated at the hospital.
There are no heavy black oil stains on my sailboat or on any part of the dock, so I strongly question the suggestion that the hospital leak is the source of the oil found in Factory Creek.
In addition, after I notified the hospital, it had people outside looking for the problem before I could walk the 100 yards or so to search for the source myself. They notified the appropriate regulatory agencies and within a very short period of time had the spill contained. Very fast, effective work from a good neighbor.
