Letter: Trump fills need to upset status quo

Why are informed citizens dissatisfied and angry about the condition and worsening decline of our nation?

The basic reason is poor performance of our federal government. Incompetent throughout and grossly overpaid, it increases its control over our lives. An especially egregious aspect is the growth of nonsensical political correctness, whose proponents suggest criminalization of deniers of the imminent threat of climate change.

Concurrent federal actions that generate our anger include at least these five:

▪  Reckless growth of federal spending, now pushing our national debt toward $20 trillion.

▪  Inhibiting economic growth with thousands of regulations that inhibit business expansion and would-be entrepreneurs from starting up. Recovery would be far more vigorous under favorable conditions.

▪  Continued lying by the administration, the exact opposite of the openness Barack Obama promised in 2008.

▪  Lax immigration control practiced with permanent Democratic domination of the federal government in mind.

▪  Non-performance of Republican Congress for fear that action against Obama’s illegal moves would bring a thorough trouncing by the left-wing media.

Cumulative effects of these factors has led to widespread disgust with the entire Washington scene, hence desire for an outsider as president. Despite his rough speech, Trump fills the need in many minds for upset of the status quo. One can’t deny his success in the tough New York City market, and he has shifted gears by naming prospective Supreme Court nominees and conferring with Henry Kissinger on foreign affairs.

Comparison of Trump’s accomplishments with those of his opponents makes him at least the lesser of two evils.
