Letter: Editorial baffling on Trump concerns

The San Diego Union-Tribune editorial in your paper has conjured up a group of baffled supporters of Donald Trump and attempts to alleviate their bewilderment. The cause they claim are the harsh criticisms Trump receives across the political spectrum, claiming President Barack Obama and the Bush presidents see Trump as awful.

The editorial points out another cause in a Fox interview. Trump said he is being harassed by Jeff Bezos, president of Amazon and owner of The Washington Post. Trump said Bezos is using the Post as a tool for political power against him and against other people, “and I’ll tell you what, we can’t let him get away with it.”

The editorial extrapolates the following: Trump is explicitly linking his unhappiness with the Post’s coverage to actions he can take as president. Trump has embraced a belligerent form of authoritarianism that should have no place in a healthy democracy.

I am confident that those in charge of upholding our Constitution’s checks and balances will address and contain any form of political authoritarianism.

The editorial writers should be more concerned with Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who was to meet with conservatives to discuss claims that its “trending topics” feature is biased against conservative viewpoints. Is Jeff Bezos next?

The editorial goes on a tirade, calling Trump a toxic avenger mocking and bullying everyone who gets in his way, etc., and hopes enough bewildered Americans figure this out before “Nixon-on-steroids” is elected.

Nixon-on-steroids is funny, which is indicative of the editorial.
