Letter: Tax everyone equally

I don’t understand how homes are taxed in this area. I have never lived in a place where homeowners did not pay for schools. I don’t understand the two different tax rates and why full-time residents pay less and don’t pay for schools.

I also was appalled to learn of a “hotline” to report neighbors or friends who you suspect are cheating on their taxes. What great PR for our lovely island: You better watch your back, someone might be reporting you.

I think to be fair, everyone should be taxed the same and everyone should contribute to the schools. There should be a flat tax of say 4.5 percent to 5 percent that everyone pays. All should contribute to the schools. I bet there would be plenty of money and you wouldn’t have to worry about someone calling the “hotline” on you.

Let’s all work together for the good of our children and the community. Stop this arguing about who is full-time and who is part-time. Spend your precious time enjoying this beautiful island and all it has to offer. Let’s all, no matter whether you live here full-time or part-time, pay the same, and support our children and our future.
