Letter: How many is enough?

You recently reported that the Town of Hilton Head Island is considering the merits of trying to attract a 250-room, 5-star hotel. That prompted a question: “What number of tourists is enough?”

It is now said to be 2.5 million per year. Tourists are great for our economy and bring many amenities that we full-time residents enjoy. But, would bringing in another half million make a big and positive difference? Traffic, among other things, is already a headache. More is not always better.

Bringing a higher class tourist population is a worthwhile goal. Maybe it would make more sense to focus on improving the facilities that are already here rather than adding more.
