Letter: Hillary Clinton has plenty of accomplishments

In response to the letter belittling Hillary Clinton “the candidate,” I would like it noted that no other candidate has ever had her experiences in the Senate, as Secretary of State, and eight years in the White House.

People often say that she accomplished nearly nothing. It should be mentioned that during her Secretary of State years she negotiated a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. She also expanded health care and family leave for military families. She has consistently fought for women’s rights on the international stage, declaring “women’s rights are human rights.”

Furthermore, she spearheaded help for first responders to get health care they needed after 9/11.

Out of law school she could have gone to a prestigious law firm. Instead she worked with incarcerated teenagers in adult prisons in South Carolina.

Finally, she helped provide millions of children with health care. As First Lady, Hillary worked with Republicans and Democrats to help create the Children’s Health Insurance Program. CHIP cut the uninsured rate of American children by half, and today it provides health care to more than 8 million kids. Incidentally, the health care part generates tens of thousands of jobs.

Her response to the Flint, Mich., water problems was to call and ask, “What can I do to help?” instead of belittling the Republican governor as Bernie Sanders did (“he needs to be fired”). That’s a whole different response.

When she left the Senate, Newt Gingrich himself said to her, “You will be missed.”
