Letter: Bluffton, developer should pay for parking solutions

Regarding the parking debacle at the Promenade, the developer and the town of Bluffton should be held liable for the solution.

The ill-conceived construction in the area, and the fact that it continues unabated in spite of the fact that this major flaw in the “master plan” has been identified years ago, is unconscionable.

The developer unfairly sold half a product (a site with no parking) and the town has haplessly disregarded its duty to guide, recognize and adjust to the deficiencies of the plan. This all too chummy situation is destined to hit the wall unless someone steps up and accepts the responsibility.

The business owners may have gone in not fully recognizing that parking is like oxygen for business development, but the developer and town knew the ratio of parking to developed square foot numbers simply don’t add up. They should pay for the solution.
