Letter: Still thankful for ‘sound of freedom’
I grew up in Eastern North Carolina under the shadow of the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, hearing daily the “sound of freedom” from training jets overhead.
Today, more than 60 years later, I am still free. And, I am thankful. When I hear the young men and women in the more modern but still difficult-to-handle aircraft practicing their skills overhead, I am still thankful. And, it is comforting.
