Letter: How Trump could be a great conservative
Trump could win me over if he were to ...
Embrace federalism. Trump could dedicate his administration to downsizing the federal government and returning as much power and function to the state and local level as possible. So far, I haven’t heard him say anything of the sort. He has admitted that the people running the apparatus are idiots and he will replace them with non-idiots. Which leads to the next point. He must change the apparatus.
Dismantle Leviathan. What a great scene it would be for President Trump to demand the heads of all these agencies to brief him on what their agency is chartered to do and show proof they are doing it. “What exactly does HUD do?”
“Blah blah blah....”
“We don’t need that, you’re fired. HUD is no longer.”
“Next! DOE! (Both energy and education.) Gone.
“EPA! Gone!”
He could whittle down the monumental bureaucracy every week. He made a name for himself on “The Apprentice” by saying “You’re fired!” He could have a new reality show called “Justify Your Agency!”
Perseus didn’t remove the snakes on Medusa’s head one by one. If Trump would decapitate the bureaucratic branch, he would immediately be a great conservative president.
